The third largest snow storm in our history has given me pause for some serious soul-searching and reflection. Like St.Paul on the road to Damascus I now see the light.

First. An acknowledgment to my wife Marsha: Honey you were absolutely right. I should have gotten the snow blower serviced in the fall. Maybe you’re even right on some other things.

Second, I take back all the kind of kind of smart-assed things I have said about Village government. The sreets got cleared and my alley got plowed. Yahoo!  Everybody should get a raise. Good job.

Third, I got my property tax bill. More than $10,000 per year for a small bungalow south of the Eisenhower. Seems a little high. But who cares I can get my car out of the garage.

Finally, it was a great thing to be out shoveling and talking to my neighbors. We all pitched in to help one another. It made me feel good to live in Oak Park.

All in all it was a great day. The clouds of cynicism and  skepticism parted a bit, and I realized things aren’t really so bad. For now.
