Walgreens is planning to move a few blocks down Madison in Oak Park, settling at the corner of Madison Street and Oak Park Avenue. And the Oak Park Plan Commission will decide whether or not the business should get several variances from the village’s zoning code to make the move work.
Currently located at 916 Madison, Walgreens wants to occupy the southwest corner of that key intersection. The proposal involves preserving the facade of the Sear’s Pharmacy building, currently on the corner, and having about 900 square feet of retail space there. Customers would enter the 14,700-square-foot Walgreens by an entrance on Madison, halfway between Grove and Oak Park. A 39-space parking lot would abut Grove Avenue, and landscaping would buffer it from the residential neighborhood.
The plan commission is scheduled to weigh in on the development at its April 16 meeting. More information on the project can be found at www.collinsbuildingredevelopment.com.
