I went to school with Devontae and have known him since freshman year. [OPRF junior killed in motorcycle accident, News, Oct.29]

He was in my gym class and was always in my study hall sophomore year because his girlfriend was in it. I remember we used to always joke about him and his white girls and how cute he was and could get any black girl. He was the nicest, funniest boy I know. He had one of the prettiest smiles-it would light up the hallways. I will never forget him, and his family are in my prayers.

Ebony, I really don’t know what to say. But I know you are a strong woman and you always walk proudly. Just hold on, sweetie … hold on!

My prayers are with you. I have two young 16-year-old boys. Be strong and remember, God takes the good ones.

I’m really sorry for your loss, Mrs. Green. Devontae really was one of the cool kids in
Oak Park. I moved from there a while ago, but I won’t forget each time I’d come up to visit my best friend, I would always run into Devontae, and each time I’d end up hanging with him too. It really bothers me that people get taken away from the light; just when things are turning for the better, tragic things like this happen. You couldn’t meet anyone as relaxed and friendly as Devontae, and you can tell by the many who mourn over him. I will try my best to attend his funeral to wish a farewell to a forever friend.

God bless you, Green family.

Mrs. Green, my heart goes out to you. Both our children attend OPRF and knew Devontae and spoke very highly of him. Our oldest has known him since daycare and was very disturbed by Devontae’s passing. On behalf of all our family, I extend my sincere condolences to you and your family and will keep you in our prayers. Marcus has a picture of them in daycare, and we will be happy to share it with you. If there is anything we can do to help, please reach out to us.

I went to school with Devontae since the sixth grade. He was one of the most positive people I knew, like a brother. We always talked about his Hollister outfits and his Vans.  His smile lit up the room. Miss you, man!
