Our therapist says we should meditate, and we couldn’t agree more. The only thing holding us back is the mental kicking and screaming we experience whenever we try to do it. We’ve decided we’re just not evolved enough, unlike the Beatles, who, as we all know, studied meditation in India with the Maharishi in the ’60s. If, like us, you’ve forgotten many of the details of that fateful trip, which, according to some sources, was the beginning of the end of the Fab Four, you have a chance to refresh your memory on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Paul Saltzman’s The Beatles in India Monthly Discussion Group Meeting at Wonderwall Music Shoppe and Emporium, 329 B Harrison St. (754-7026).
We’d go, but frankly we’re too busy cowering in bed with the covers pulled up over our head, preparing ourselves for the onslaught of stress that always slams into the family when school starts.
If we can manage, we’ll crawl out of bed on Saturday, Aug. 25, for the Animal Care League’s fundraising garage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1013 Garfield St. (386-3540). We doubt that even meditation could achieve the level of relaxation we feel when buying inexpensive knickknacks that we don’t need. We’re concerned about the “Christmas in August” theme, however, with its whole new set of stress-producers.
We’ve heard that one can’t be afraid and grateful simultaneously-that one emotion cancels out the other. Pilgrim Congregational Church, 460 Lake St., hosts a Celebration of Praise on Friday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. (848-5860). Perhaps we’ll go and offer up a litany of thanks for our wonderful community, our exceptional schools and our fabulous children. If only the former would stop eating up the latter and spitting out their frazzled parents.
