Engaged engineers

Marirose Ferrara and John Mullin of Oak Park announce the engagement of their daughter, Sabina Ferrara Mullin, to Benjamin Brewster Schmuck, son of John and Susan Schmuck of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Sabina, a 2001 graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, received a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 2005. She is employed by S&C Electric Company in Chicago. Benjamin received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and is employed by Caterpillar, Inc., in Montgomery, Ill. A May wedding is planned.

Nursing education chair

West Suburban College of Nursing has named Vi Wilkes, Ed.D., M.S., M.A., R.N., to the Sr. Gregory Krzak Endowed Chair of Nursing Education. Wilkes will facilitate collaborative nursing education and research projects within Resurrection Health Care. Before assuming her new role, Wilkes served as associate professor in the School of Nursing and Course Coordinator for Medical Surgical Nursing at West Suburban College of Nursing.

Those who excel in D97

Representing their colleagues and District 97 in this year’s Those Who Excel Awards program are Susan Beach from Julian Middle School (Non-Certified Support); Stephanie Parker from Whittier School (Early Career Educator); Sarah Bingaman from Holmes/Beye/Mann schools (Certified Support); Paul Jacobson from Lincoln School (Classroom Teacher); John Hodge from Irving School (Principal); and Bob Parks (Community Volunteer). The Illinois State Board of Education hosts Those Who Excel Awards annually to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to public education in Illinois.
