Wis. Lutheran 30
Concordia 13
The Concordia University Chicago football team dropped its third game in a row on Saturday, 30-13, at the hands of division opponent Wisconsin Lutheran College.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Cougars struck first on a 1-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Khyree Copeland. Senior kicker Ben Price’s extra point attempt was blocked, giving Concordia (1-4, 0-1 Northern Athletic Conference) a 6-0 lead.
Concordia’s defense however couldn’t sustain the momentum from the touchdown, allowing the Warriors to march 48 yards down the field on the ensuing possession and score on a 29-yard field goal by Heikki Luoma.
The Cougars took a 6-3 lead into halftime, but it would be short lived as the Warriors offense opened the flood gates in the second half, outscoring Concordia 27-7.
The Warriors’ first strike came on a 21-yard field goal by Luoma with 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Warriors then found the end zone after a 13-play 68-yard drive. Quarterback Josh McCormick hit Ryan Adamovich for an 11-yard touchdown.
Offensively, Concordia continued to struggle. Things went from bad to worse when another punt by Price was blocked in the end zone and recovered by Deonte Trawick for a Wisconsin Lutheran touchdown. The Cougars scored to start the final quarter when Jared Mundt plunged in from a yard out.
But Warriors answered with another Luoma field goal, followed by a 20-yard touchdown run by Larry Hairl.
The Cougars turned the ball over four times, and only made it to the red zone three times on the day. They’ll try to end the three-game skid on Saturday at Rockford College.
