Kris Lenzo and Sandra Kauffman(second photo) perform “Ashes” during Momenta dance troupe’s spring concert at the Academy of Movement and Music’s Doris Humphrey Theater, 605 Lake St., last weekend. Lenzo, a championship wheelchair athlete and dancer was clamped onto an 8-foot-high apparatus, hanging upside-down through the duration of this most unusual, and dramatic, pas de deux. Kauffmann, an instructor with (and graduate of) the academy, is the director of the dance program at Loyola University.
Above, Mary Kelly Kren performs the Loie Fuller dance, “Lily of the Nile,” holding 6-foot-long poles and wearing yards of white silk.
The dance concert continues this Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. (“Ashes” will be performed only on Saturday.) “I See America Dancing,” a choreographed journey through American history, is performed by the younger Momenta dancers during matinees, 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
