Thursday, April 23: There is such an expert as an el historian, and he’ll be in Oak Park this week for show and tell. Greg Borzo, former editor of Modern Railroads magazine and a Chicago History Museum tour guide for the city’s elevated train system, will be at the main branch of Oak Park Public on Thursday night with a PowerPoint presentation from his book The Chicago “L.” Borzo tracks the story of this most colorful example of mass transit through photographs, drawings and maps that he’s collected. His presentation, which is free, is sponsored by the Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest, the Oak Park Society of Model Engineers and the Oak Park Public Library. Borzo will start sharing stories at 7 p.m. The main branch of the library is at 834 Lake. 697-6915, www.oppl.org

Saturday, April 25: A Berwyn artist known as Nerfect – if “near perfect” came to mind, you get his intent – will be introducing his latest work at Fly Bird in Oak Park this weekend. Britton Walters, the man behind the name, will be at the hip accessories shop with humor as its calling card. Fly Bird stocks Nerfect’s T-shirts and stickers. His appearance will not only mark the opening of a monthlong show of Nerfect paintings, it will also be a birthday party for Walters. The show opening will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Fly Bird is at 719 Lake. 383-3330, www.fly-bird.net
