This Sunday, Oct. 11, is National Coming Out Day a formal signpost for openness and honesty on the calendar page that’s Gay History Month.
The symbol: A closet-busting figure by the late social activist and street artist Keith Haring
The history: An annual observance since 1988, when it was organized to spotlight the first anniversary of a landmark gay rights march on Washington.
The message: Listen. Become aware. Get beyond the secrets. Put yourself in another’s shoes. Show what you stand for, even if reactions to your stance worry you.
Make this section required reading. We all need primers on understanding.
