How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Apparently, practice has paid off for the Oak Park and River Forest Children’s Chorus, which will get to Carnegie during their April tour, as they take part in a choral festival. In fact, they’ve been chosen the festival’s “featured choir.”

The chorus got in a little extra practice this past Sunday during their winter concert at Ascension Church. “This Joy – Winter Concert 2009” continued the chorus’s collaboration with Stephanie Clemens’ Momenta Dance Troupe, a cross-cultural exchange that had the chorus’s singing Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols during Momenta’s fall dance concert in November and Momenta returning the favor this past weekend.

The Oak Park and River Forest Children’s Chorus will celebrate their 20th year in 2010. The ensemble began under the direction of Carolyn Paulin (a broadcaster at WFMT). The chorus now has four performing ensembles with singers ranging in age from 7 to 18. The current artistic director is Bill Chin.

Their anniversary weekend is June 4-6, so if you know of any chorus alums, spread the word.
