So Saturday our block had a block sale (nee garage sale). I’m not a big fan of sitting in a chair while strangers paw at your junk and don’t buy it. To be sure, it was Marsha’s idea, but she had a class at the YMCA from 10AM to 11AM and so I had to man the junkstation.

We had downsized so we didn’t have much: a 40’s sewing machine in a wood case ($25); a grass trimer ($5); a glass thing ($2); some plastic chairs (50 cents each). We had some Wicker furniture, but it got sold to a neighbor — a kind of preferred customer sale, if you will.

I didn’t do a very good job. I gave a way a couple of shams ($1), whatever a sham is. Some old guy’s wife was going to make doll clothes for his grandkids. I also sold the glass thing for a buck. I’m going to frame the bill and put it in the kitchen.

Marsha sold lots more of the stuff than I thought she would, but then she bought some other stuff. At one time we were 14 dollars down, but I think we rallied at the end. My neighbor, Greg, came over and we talked, giving me an excuse to ignore the customers. I went inside for a while thinking that the worse thing that could happen was that someone might steal what I was willing to throw away.

The hour passed quickly and Marsha came back. All in all, not so bad. We should do it again in 10 or 15 years.
