These “Wall Street” protests resonate with me.  So, I paid a visit to the corner of Jackson & LaSalle earlier today to see what was happening at our local financial district.  Occupy Chicago amounted to maybe a couple hundred people at rush hour, but they were a lively bunch.

I had a prolonged conversation with a man where I expressed my wish (first uttered in that bad summer of 2008) that maybe some of our troops should be brought home from Iraq & Afghanistan and redeployed in lower Manhattan.  The fantasy of our troops poking – ever so lightly with their bayonets, mind you – some of the rats that tanked our economy used to bring a little smile to my face.  Ahh, back in 2008 the lines were getting a little blurry as to just who the enemies of America really were.  Homeland Security indeed!

Well, maybe those lines are still blurry despite a couple of elections. And maybe 2012 will just bring more of the same, but it was nice to see someone speaking up about something.

Anything.
