The Fenwick softball team fell to Providence 10-0 and 4-3 in doubleheader action on Saturday, but had some success against Carmel earlier in the week.
Fenwick regrouped after a 9-2 loss to Carmel and edged the Corsairs 3-2. An RBI single by Jess Mrozek scored Jenna Cairo in the third inning and Olivia Soja drove in the game winner in the same frame on a hard hit ball to second base. Soja allowed just two earned runs on six hits in seven innings.
Fenwick kicked off last week by slipping past Lane Tech 3-2. Cairo scored the game-winning run on a single in the final in the eighth inning. Marisa Wakely walked and Val Perrilli bunted her over to second to set up Cairo’s heroics. In the second innings, Juveland Sage leadoff with a double and Mrozek followed with a single. Ashley Parenti drove in both runners with a double to put the Friars on the board first.
Perrilli earned the win on the mound, allowing just two earned runs on one hit but walking eight in eight innings.
