For the second straight year, Oak Park and River Forest High School has sent a letter out to families offering a transfer for their kids after the school failed to meet the target mark on the Prairie State Achievement Test (PSAE), taken by juniors in April.

This is the ninth year OPRF has failed to make “adequate yearly progress” (AYP) on standardized tests. In its letter to parents sent out last week, Supt. Steven Isoye informed parents that the high school is “making a good faith effort to determine whether any of our neighboring school districts qualify and are willing to accept any of our students for choice purposes. Currently, no neighboring district has entered into an appropriate arrangement with District 200.”

Isoye adds that as a single-school district, OPRF, 201 N. Scoville, has no school within the district where a student could transfer.

“If a neighboring district is willing to accept students from Oak Park and River Forest High School,” Isoye said in the letter, “we will contact you immediately. Please note that the priority for transfer will be given to the lowest-achieving children from low-income families first.”

Karin Sullivan, OPRF’s spokesperson, said no parent has requested a transfer at this point.
