Patrick “Paddy” Joseph McGovern, 49, who lived in Oak Park for most of his life, died here on Feb. 5, 2015. Born on Aug. 22, 1965 in Chicago, he attend Irving Elementary School and Oak Park and River Forest High School.

A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he worked as an insurance underwriter and contractor. He loved sports, especially his Chicago White Sox, and took definite pride in their 2005 championship. He had a strong interest in politics, current events, and, as a veteran, had great respect for the Armed Forces. His hobbies included the various challenges of trivia, games, and puzzles, and he cherished his time spent with family and friends. 

Paddy McGovern is survived by his daughter, Jessica; his best friend, Sandy McGovern; his siblings, Kathleen Ann (Greg Miklusak), Francis P. Jr., Ellen (Harry) Johnson, Terry (Trish) and Stephen McGovern; his nieces and nephews, Ryan (Meghan) Miklusak, Matt, Dan and Katie McGovern, Samantha (fiancé Matt Kreitz) Johnson, Alex Komechak, Rachel, Kevin and Liam McGovern, and Alyssa Lapa; and his many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis P. and Kathleen Ann (nee Joyce) McGovern. 

Visitation was held on Feb. 10 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home in Oak Park. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Ascension Church, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
