Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School’s award-winning performing arts program BRAVO! is still at its winning ways. Last week, 45 students from the program traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the International Junior Theater Festival, where they performed in front of 5,000 music theater teachers and students representing more than 100 groups across the United States.
This was the eighth consecutive year BRAVO! has been invited to the prestigious festival, which includes workshops in Broadway performance led by theater professionals plus a slew of student performances.
In addition to their capstone performance in front of all the festival’s participants, BRAVO! members also performed excerpts from Annie and Aladdin at a special 20th Anniversary celebration of Broadway Junior, a suite of “condensed, author-approved versions of classic musicals … custom-tailored to the needs of young people and schools,” according to the program’s website.
