The Multicultural Center is one of Oak Park’s hidden gems. Created and nurtured under the auspices of the District 97 elementary schools, the collection of ethnic artifacts is a year away from being squeezed out by an enrollment bump at Percy Julian Middle School.
Where this treasure of 16,000 items was going to land has been very much in doubt until just now when the Oak Park Public Library stepped up and offered space at the Dole Branch Library, 255 Augusta Blvd., as a permanent home.
Thanks to the library for this active collaboration. Thanks to village government’s Community Relations Commission which put this issue on the radar over the past six months.
